I always knew that I would study something medically based but had not really considered chiropractic until I was in my early teens.
That was when I was involved in a car crash with my brother where the car rolled onto its roof. After climbing out of the car, I initially felt ok but later that evening when the adrenaline had calmed down, I started to feel neck and back pain. The next day I went to see the nearest chiropractor who diagnosed whiplash and started some treatment. After a few treatments, I was able to move more freely and the pain had started to ease. I was so impressed with the treatment that I asked my careers advisor to find out how to apply to study chiropractic. I was initially presented with chiropody courses and had to explain to her that chiropractors treat the musculoskeletal system not just feet!
Chiropractic Education
I attended the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth where I studied many subjects including neurology, anatomy, physiology, nutrition and of course chiropractic techniques. I graduated in 1993 with a BSc in Chiropractic and returned to study part time for my PgDip in Clinical Chiropractic which included rehabilitation techniques. I have also attended numerous courses on treating paediatrics and pregnant women.
Away from Pure Chiropractic
In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym; keeping fit and having grown up abroad, I love to travel especially to warm countries. I like to read, listen to music and spend time with my family and friends. I am also passionate about continuing my own learning and education and like to study and research many different aspects of chiropractic so that I can offer more to my patients.
Warning Signs
Symptoms do not just occur, they are a warning sign that something is not right and as chiropractors we know the importance of maintaining body and lifestyle balance. Chiropractic has a lot to offer both children and adults as a choice for natural day to day health care.
Please feel free to contact Pure Chiropractic to find out how chiropractic could help you maintain a healthy spine and lifestyle.
Staines Chiropractor Alex Symington
MChiro DC

I had always been aware of chiropractic, one of my mums’ friend was one but I had never been and never felt the need to go.
That was until in one of my more reckless moments I got my head and neck in the wrong place while making a tackle in rugby. This left me with neck pain and headaches and constant cracking in my neck. It was years before I was convinced to go and see a Chiropractor but the difference after a couple adjustments was amazing and I have never looked back since. I still have regular adjustments to this day. I just wish I wasn’t as stubborn and had gone sooner!
I was Inspired to be a Chiropractor
My experience with Chiropractic after my rugby incident and the fantastic results I was seeing in my own body inspired me to follow a path into Chiropractic. I enrolled at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic where I would learn and train to be able to help people the way my Chiropractor helped me.
At the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic I studied many subjects including neurology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition and of course chiropractic techniques. As a keen sporting enthusiast myself I am particularly interested in the role of Chiropractic and sports. Especially now many teams are using Chiropractic to improve peak performance including premiership football clubs, rugby clubs and F1 teams.
Symptoms Don't Just Happen!
I always consider a health problem or symptom within the context of a patients’ whole lifestyle. Symptoms don't just happen on their own - they are a warning that something is not right - and as chiropractors we know the importance of maintaining body and lifestyle balance.
Away from the Clinic
When I get time away from the clinic I am a keen rugby player and follower and try to play when I can, that’s what the bruises on a Monday morning will be from! I enjoy keeping fit and active, running regularly and playing tennis when the weather is good. All these help to keep my back in top shape. I am a strong believer in practicing what you preach and follow my own advice to look after my back and have even recently taken up yoga.
